In August of 2007 the Town of West Warwick and the West Warwick Police Department opened the West Warwick Youth Center.  This building, which contains a recreation room, meeting room, cafeteria with vending machines, and Police gym, was built and furnished mainly with grants and donations from both businesses and individuals.  The main goal of the Center is to provide a safe, violence, and drug free area for the youths of West Warwick from grades 5 to 12, who are under the age of 18.  Within the recreational room there are two pool tables, foose ball table, ping pong table, 50" plasma TV, two Playstation 3 and two Xbox 360 video games. The meeting or conference room contains seating for approx. 60 people and is equipped with a SMART board and 6 computers donated from Cox communications with secure internet access. The cafeteria has seating for approx. 25 people and is equipped with a refrigerator, tables and chairs, along with a flat screen tv.  Vending machines are also available for snacks and drinks.

The center is open 8am to 8pm and is staffed by West Warwick Police Officers assigned to the Juvenile Division.  During schools hours youths are allowed to enter the building at 1:45pm.  During the summer youths are welcome at 8am.  Parents need to be aware that Officers are working while at the Youth Center and although monitor any problems within the facility or on the grounds,  there is no sign in sheet and the West Warwick Police Department is not responsible for those youths who leave the facility without parents permission. Any parent may contact the Youth Center to inquire if their child is present.

During the summer of 2009, several local companies donated materials and services to provide a blacktop area which will be used for basketball, touch football, street hockey and other sports or activities.  A press box is currently under construction which during the summer months will be used for beverages and snack sales.
